I have an 8yr. old QH mare that is over at the knee. What kind of problems will I have with this condition and is there anything I can do to correct it. I have been training to do some light cutting and sorting, I really haven't had any problems yet. My trainer has just pointed out that she is over at the knee. She has had a sore check ligament a couple of times , would this be due to the over at the knee problem.
Thanks for the help!

Hello again igofit,
There are two different conditions I see folks identify as "over at the knee". One is a bony conformation where the bones of the knee, sit over the cannon though the leg is straight and the other is where the leg stays perpetually slightly flexed which results in the knee being at the front of the bow and over the cannon. This is due to flexor contracture (usually the superficial digital flexor though other tendons may be responsible). Do you know which your horse suffers from? If not posting images of good lateral conformation photos that show the whole leg from the side while he stands square will help us decide.
