Hi Monicka, I too would love to know if there is a registry for brands. My horse has a pair of lips on his butt. If anyone knows of a web site that might have brand registry, I would like to know too.
thanks
sue

Y'all might try the Texas cattlemen's Assc. I know that they have inspectors that will come out to your ranch and freeze brand your horses. All brands are registered in the county where the horse is located. Another source might be Texas A&M University. The best of luck. Val

If you contact the county where the horse was branded, be sure to send an accurate description of the location of the brand. A brand on the left flank signifies one rancher's brand -- but the same brand on the opposite flank signifies a different rancher's brand (at least, that's how it is with cattle).

Good luck. :-)

Usually each state has a brand inspector, and a brand book. Brands are registered with the state, and are different for cattle and horses. You should try to get your hands on a brand book from the state of Texas and see if you can find the brand. Note that brands can be the same, but are registered according to where they are located on the animal. For instance XYZ ranch can have the same brand as ABC ranch, but locate the brand in a different quarter - either shoulder, or either hip. The other thing you could do is call your state brand inspector and see if he or she can track the brand down for you.
