My horse is sheding out, but very slowly. We purchased him in May of last year, so this is the first sheding season that we have observed. He developed his coat late in the year , about Jan., and began to shed in mid April. All of the other horses are completely shed out and have been since the middle of April. He is sheding continuously, and still has alot of coat left. The average temp. is around 76-78 degrees in the day now. He has been wormed regularly and received an extra worming in April to try to get him to shed. He is healthy besides this problem.

Hi Rita,

I have a morgen in my barn that came from a show barn. He was under lights all the time. After a couple of years out from under the lights, he came into a normal shedding pattern. Could something like this be the case? Or as Dr. O elluded to, did he come from a different climate?

The horse is seven years old and has been raised in Conway, South Carolina. He is now in Myrtle Beach, still within 30 miles of his previous home. He was kept in a stable at night last winter (no special lights) and has been boarded outside this winter, I thought the change could be the culprit? He has been blanketed.

It is possible, Rita, that changing light situations may have resulted in the odd shedding pattern but the carry over pattern from year to year is not well studied. We do have lots of reports like Aileen's however.
