Help Please. Can someone give me easy to follow pictures, diagrams or instructions for a roll braid. We have just bought a Clydesdale mare. I do not know how to do the mane roll/braid. Should the mane have ribbons or wool. We are taking her to an Ag Show on Saturday. She is entered in Led Classes and Ridden Draught. I am great at doing English sewn plaits both manes and tails. This is a new venture. Thank You Marcia

Hi

It is 2.30am in the morning here in Australia. I have been following the instructions on those links and cannot wait for daylight to get out to my horse to practise. I think I can do it now. I am still unsure what to buy for the mane roll if anyone has any suggestions please. Thank you very much for the links etc. I have been loaned some fabulous old harness etc for our first show. The owner said to clean it up with black shoe polish and silver/brass cleaner. It is going to be a big job but it will look wonderful. She was worked today for the first time since having 4 foals. Remembered it all with calmness. Anymore suggestions will be appreciated. Thanks again
Cheers
Marcia

I freely admit I know nothing about harness but I have never heard of using shoe polish on leather.
I guess it has been used on leather shoes with success.
I would be nervous it would rub off on the horse.

Hi Lori, the harness is black and so is my mare so I will get away with it. I am still open to any advice. Anyone, anymore suggestions with regard to the mane roll. A friend uses wool but I am sure there is something better.HerdHorseMinistry Harmony

shes beautiful!!! We definately want pics of her all dolled up at the show:-)
heres a link to a draft horse supply store...you can see what kind of ribbon they use and then pick some up at a fabric store or walmart.
keep in mind you will need something with stretch to it.
if you cant find an actual ribbon you like, you can make one with fabric...the strip needs to be around 2 inches wide by around 12 feet long. If you do make one I would iron it so it looks crisp and neat.

I dont know if you know this already or not ....but you need to keep her head up once you do the roll. I would do it before you put the harness on.
Im so excited for you!!! what fun
