Hello,
I'm thinking about purchasing a clydales/Tb cross. She's 8 months old and 14h. My question is can I use the height estatimation chart for a Draft cross? Don't daft horses mature slower? After reading the article on OCD and then dicussion group I feel almost fearful. Is she growing to fast? The filly is fed free choice good quality grass hay/alfalfa mix, and 2lbs of a pellet feed call LMF (I'm pretty sure its for young horses). She weight tapes once monthly and says the filly has not gained more than 2lbs per month. What do you think?

I think her weight tape is broken this horse should be gaining over 100lbs a month and if it is going to be a big cross well over a hundred lbs.

There are enough particulars left out of the feeding for me not to be able to judge it at all. Certainly 2 lbs of concentrate daily is not pushing. The height estimation chart is probably not as accurate for horses at both ends of the size spectrum but most of that late maturation in cold bloods is "muscling up". It will add several inches to their height after the bones quit growing.

Alicia, worrying about OCD in a sound horse is a poor way to spend your time.
