I think that labeling something as being for horses ups the price a good bit, so I often shop for horse gear in strange, but lower priced places. (This is true for sailers and boaters - labeling it marine really tacks on the $$$.)

In any case, here are some "finds."

Very soft brushes used to buff up people shoes make great horse face brushes - new brushes, of course.

I like the clear, inexpensive storage boxes at Wal-Mart for use at shows. I can store stuff I may need in several (lunging gear, spare bridle, girth, pads, etc.) and it will stay clean and is easily found if needed since I can see through the boxes.

Tote bags for garden tools make neat, washable brush carry alls.

My muck bucket came from Lowe's.

I use a bit of hardware (2 chain lengths, some screw eyes and a couple of double end snaps) and a thick wooden dowel (all from the hardware store) to make a blanket rack that hangs off the stall bars.

I buy all my snaps, etc. from the hardware store.

I have a yellow and black plastic box from Lowe's that is intended for tools. It has a tray for brushes you can carry over to the stall. It also is deep enough for spray bottles, etc. AND, TA DA, it has a handle and wheels for pulling, like a small carry on suitcase!!! It is terrific for shows.

There is also a smaller, step up version with a handle you can use for mounting or braiding at shows.

My spray bottles for fly spray, etc. come from the hardware store.

There are elastic bands at the hardware store that hold a small flashlight above your ear. What a great way to point some light on the subject when you need both hands!

So, the next time your SO drags you to the hardware store, put on your thinking cap and shop for some horsey items!

Cheers.
