No his would not be normal and as to where it might be.....the question is did he ever have it? We have an article with lots of pictures showing the normal appearence on both the imature horse and mature horse at many different stages, see Care for Horses: Disease Prevention and Health Care: Aging Horses and Incisor Anatomy. I really wouldn`t know if he ever had it as i`ve never really looked at his teeth before. I`ve had him since he was 15 months old. He doesn`t seem do have any problems with it and is eating well. Do you think an adult tooth could come through when he is older? |

It is possible he will grow adults miss A. If the horse lost this tooth do to trauma it is more likely but less likely if born this way. Radiographs might reveal whether there is an adult tooth cooking under the gum but difficult to get a good picture. They just won't bite down on that dental radiograh plate. DrO |

My 18 yo gelding has a missing incisor 4th on on the top left since he was about 4 yrs old. It has never caused any problems. He is a Grand Prix dressage competitor and won many USDF awards on the way. Now the lower one is getting a bit long and starting to angle down. I won't do anything until the end of showing unless it begins to cause a problem. Just FYI |
