I have spent way too much time searching the 'net for a new med weight winter blanket. I would like one with an attached neck but I see some that don't stay on well, some do, and some that seem to have gaps.
I don't know which brands are which.
I like a med weight outer blanket, then I layer underneath. I find it is easier to regulate warmth and liners are much less investment, not to mention they are also easier to wash.
Any tips?
Thanks Lori

I have a Rambo Wug turnout, in both medium weight and heavy weight. They're waterproof, breathable, sturdy, warm, don't slip or turn on the horse. Dover has a good price on them right now. The medium weight may be just what you're looking for! Happy shopping!

It seems to deped on the build of your horse. I love Rambo blankets, but they are cut wrong for my horses. I use Schneiders because they have adjustable necklines. They also have some good sales right now. www.sstack.com

I've had bad luck with the attached necks as they rub out mane hair where the neck part ends, at least they did on my stallions. I'm back to detachable hoods. I like being able to layer, also, as our weather is so changable. There are several companies that make "systems" for layering, like Schneider's and Rider's.

Sara...I second Schneiders....their blankets last for years. I tried five different neck covers from other companies that were attached and none worked on my Arab, they were so big I thought he might hang himself. Finally hit gold with the Dura Tek med weight waterproof neck cover and matching med weight blanket also waterproof....on sale because it was purple but got the set for $120. I got the neck in small...the first small size I have seen in neck covers and we also hit gold on the body size...most 72's hang down on him like a little kid wearing her Daddy's shirt for PJ's. But I love this year's buy. I second the SStack motion.

I'm with Bonny -- Like my Rambo turnout with attached hood, and my Arab loves it too. It has never caused any rubbing problems for me, but as with everything -- you need the correct size, and some horses are built to better fit into the brand. My turnout does not come apart at the neck -- it is sewed right to the other part. It has an excellent, foolproof velcro system under the neck and then two snap buckles that close over the velcro system. I haven't had great luck with liners because they tend to slide to one side or the other. One morning I discovered my poor boy standing on the rear part of the liner with his front legs because it had shifted so much he was forced to walk on it. What a sight! Fortunate thing he is accustomed to wearing all sorts of costumes without spooking.
