I have a neighbor who round bales cane hay for his cattle. He has sold out and asked if I may be interested in this cane. I am abit uncertain about Cane hay and horses. I know some around here that think it is the way to go, but they are the type to kick the horses out to pasture in the summer and forget they have a horse... What are your thoughts on this feed source and horses...

I purchased some cane hay in error and from my point of view it has almost no nutritional value, it is simply filler. My horses would eat it when bored but mostly have liked it for bedding. They tore it up and spread it with impressive determination. They seemed to concur that it was barely worth the effort of chewing! Cows regurgitate which allows them to eat a wider variety of poor quality feed as they are able to extract more food value from anything they put in their mouth by virtue of this process.
