I need to make a decision about insurance for my two horses. What I’m primarily interested in is covering major medical. I’m not looking to protect a financial investment. It’s more the emotional attachment that if anything would happen I would need to do my best to provide for their care. Most of the companies I’ve looked into have major medical added to the mortality insurance. Is anyone aware of a company that just has major medical? Thanks, Sandi

I was just on the phone with my insurance agent, so I posed that question to her. Accoding to her, the answer is no. The mortality portion is the base of your equine policy, just like the liability portion is the base of your car insurance policy. Generally the minimum amount for mortality that I've seen is $150, and then your major medical cost varies according to how much coverage you want.

Thanks Sandra, that's just what I was trying to figure out. The mortality I was looking at did include colic surgery. I'll just have to decide if that gives me peace of mind. I've seen some pet insurance with just medical so I was hoping there might be something different out there. But I imagine they are all using the same model. I really appreciate your help. Sandi
