My boarding facility requires Streptococcus vacines.
Is the Boehringer Ingelheim vaccine StrepVax II save for a 7month and 4month pregnant mare?

Previous post subject line somehow didn't change from my last post when I posted this message.

Thanks

Hello Scott,
I hate to seem obfuscating but safe is a relative term and the question should be, "are my horses safer vaccinated than not vaccinated".

This vaccine has no specfic label for pregnancy. I suspect the company does not want to spend the money for approval but knows no specific reason not to give the vaccine to pregnant mares. That said, all vaccines have the potential for reactions and the Strangles vaccine more so than others. This is balanced against the chance your mare might contract Strangles and how serious this disease might be for your mare. We go over these various factors in our article on Vaccine Overview and more information is provided in the article on Strangles. By reading these and assessing your risk for contraction you can get an idea of whether this is a good idea or not.
