Today when I went to buy diapers for Hanks abscess wrap I bought the swimpants by mistake. They are great it slipped on just like a sock and protects his heel bulbs from the tape. I was lucky and got the right size, much easier than trying to get a disposable diaper on and cheaper.

Diane I have not seen these, are they in the diaper section and what brand and size did you buy?

Dr O they are usually called Little Swimmers and they are water proof diapers that pull on like underware that kids can wear to the pool. They have stretchy sides that aren't velcro (wondered how the heck to get one off of a kid with a dirty diaper once without making a mess of everything! Then I realized you needed to tear the sides LOL)
We used one to dress a shoulder injury on our Catahoula when he was attacked by a pyranese and had a big wound on his chest. Pulled it up like pants around his legs, then up around his chest, made a cut in the top to bring around his shoulders then secured it with duct tape. We still have some in the medicine cabinet thus the joke from my husband recently wanting to know if I wanted to be an stalker astronaut. LOL.
They are in the diaper isle and come in everything from name brand to store brand.

I would get the biggest size possible. I think they go up to 5t. They really do work so much better! Even the outside material is made to be much mor durable to avoid them breaking apart when wet. They are pretty expensive compared to regular diapers though.

Dr.O little swimmers are the name as Corrine said, I have huggies brand, Hank took the small 18-26 lbs. size for his hoof. I medicated his hoof and slipped it on, put a piece of Duct tape on to hold it in place then vet wraped and it doesn't get soggy stuffing. It was intact after 24 hrs. and dry.

Gwenn the ones I got were cheaper than regular disposable diapers and I got more at Walmart anyway 28 lil swimmers for around $3.50 I think.
I LOVE THEM

Costco is another great source! I've used them for all sorts of foot problems, founder, abscesses, etc.

I forgot the part I like most, no wet filling after 24 hrs. wear. He had these on for about 24 hrs.
Very dry swim pants!

I love Nemo! LOL. It's keeping with the theme of our vacation. :-). Seriously, Diane I never thought of using them on a hoof but what a wonderful dressing and I love how intact they stay and how clean they are when you remove them. They probably wick away drainage amazingly! Thanks for the pics. I am glad we kept a stock after my nephew left last summer. And P.S. I love when people use creative ways to dress wounds etc. reminds me of combat medicine...you wouldn't believe what we could do with so little.
Hope Hank heals well!

The lil swimmers are turning out to be quite a find!
I put them on with a squirt of gold bond powder to help with Hanks heel bulb sores, this morning when I took his boots off his rubs looked much better and didn't get raw over night like normal. They are better than the gaiters that came with the old macs and are much easier to apply. I better stock up before winter stuff comes out and they disappear.

Diane,
Excellent pictures of the process. I would add that by using a few layers of duct tape to reinforce the toe area they will not cut through as quickly, most important if you are trying to protect a pared out abscess at the toe.
