In New England, some vets are recommending Eastern equine encephalitis, Western EE, and W. Nile be given in Jan. and Feb. and then again in May or June.

Is this the latest thinking? Twice a year? Some owners are concerned about over-vaccination, especially here, where mosquitoes aren't a problem until, say, April or May at the very earliest.

I see no reason to change our recommendation in the article on vaccines and vaccine schedules, Ellie. However these are general recommendations, if you would like more detail on our reasoning and how it might apply to your situation see the actual articles on EEE and WNV on the Equine Diseases » Nervous System Menu.

Ah...thanks, Dr. O. Actually, I had read your articles with great interest but wondered whether anything very new had developed. You see, one area vet is strongly recommending twice-yearly EEE, WEE, and W. Nile, and many of her clients are wondering if this is safe and whether, quite frankly, it is a money-making technique during the slow part of the year for a practice with a high overhead.
Sad to think, but several people were looking for more information, so I told them I'd try your site!

Both of these articles have recently been updated with the WNV article updated as recently as last month. If something new pops up we will put it in the article and if important, in your newsletter.
