Hi,
I'm planning on starting my mustang and aged (17) QH on supplements. I would like something that is beneficial to joints (ConDrOitin, etc.) as well as the usual vitamins they need to be healthy. They are in good health now, glossy coats, eyes bright, cheerful attitudes so I'm mostly concerned with joint health. My mustang's knees and elbows click a lot when he's moving around his stall, enough to cause me concern. It happens generally if I move him sideways or backwards and he stands a lot with his elbow cocked out, not directly under his body.

Dr.O, do you think this could predispose him to early arthritis? If so, is there anything I can do to slow/arrest the development?

Also, I'd like opinions from others on what supplements they feed and for what reasons.

Thanks everyone.

Hello Holly,
This is an often asked question Holly and we see lots of horses that click that remain sound. I really don't think it has any prognostic value. Our suggestions for supplementation can be found at, Equine Medications and Nutriceuticals » Anti-inflammatories: NSAID's, Steroids, and Arthritis Treatment » The Joint Protective Treatments.
