My horse's sulcus is very hard. The farrier said it was too hard and to apply rainmaker to the site and coronet. I have been for months coating these two areas at least three times a week. The mare only gets bathed once a month. She is on cosequin, a daily ration of cooked flaxseed and timothy hay with a scoop of senior.I thought having soft frogs were a concern. She has had no hoof issues except for this hard sulcus. Is this a problem? |

Since we cannot see and feel the sulcus I cannot tell if you have a problem but I don't remember ever diagnosing a frog as being too hard. I have seen feet so hard they were difficult to trim, a problem for the farrier but not the horse! Soaking the horses feet in water for 15 - 30 minutes prior to the farrier working on them is said to help. DrO |
