I read that there is a brand of sweet feed available that doesn't contain corn. I wonder who carries it as I have a pintabian that needs more energy in order to do show hack and road hack classes. I just don't want her to get to hot for me to handle and apparently this is what the corn can do. She is on 12% pellets, ground flax, Dr. Reed's supplement and 5 flakes of local hay (last years) at the moment and I need to add to her diet as she will be doing 2 days ring work, 3 days 1/2 hour lunging and trailriding uphills. What's the best nutrition I can give her without her becoming too hard to handle? She's approx 15h and 8 years old.

Hello Sylvia,
There are many oat based sweet feeds which do not have corn but MegaCal for MegaCal it does not matter which you use from a behavorial stand point. There is a energy source which seems to be less "hot" from a beehavorial standpoint. For more information see, Care for Horses » Nutrition » Current Concepts in Nutrition: Behavior, Lameness, and Reproduction.
