When we built our new barn, we planned for 2, 14 x 14 stalls on the West, and 2 on the East. This is in the North end of a 40 x 60 barn. (hubby and son get the south end for garage/shop) Our main "holding area" is straight west of the West stalls. I think it is about 150 feet long by 40 feet wide.

I would like to put another outside area off the the East stalls. But due to having to drive thru this area, with hay wagons and trucks, it can't be very big, nor loop around the backside of the barn. I am thinking like an outdoor stall size. The horses still would spend time in the west area as this also gives them access to other pastures. So it would be used mostly at night time to give 2 younger horses a chance to get more hay. The stalls would be open constantly also.

If I went the width of the stalls, about 30 feet, what's the smallest I could go out?? I am thinking 40 feet, using HorseGaurd fence.

Any guidelines appreciated.

thanks
