I purchased 100#s of Nutrena alfalfa cubes Saturday and when I opened one of the bags I noticed some cubes were light brown on the outside while still very green on the inside when I broke them apart.

Any concerns? I have not dealt with this before. Thank you. Leilani

If they smell good and are not dusty, I don't think that they are harmful. The nutrition may be slightly compromised.

Hello Leilani,
It suggests to me that the cubes were exposed to light causing the carotenoids on the outside to have oxidized. They may have sat in the sun a day before packing and perfectly fine ot it may indicate prolonged storage and decreased nutrition. As Vicki suggests a fresh hay odor on the broken apart cubes would be the best indicator you have. Otherwise you might query the seller.
