I noticed this past week that a couple of the horses' coronet bands are rough, rough, rough! Some people paint with (hoof-flex maybe?) on hooves every week or two. Curious as to what causes this. Cold weather? DIET? On-going dry or wet conditions?

Hello Sherri,
Cold weather is not much of a cause but repeated wetting and some types of nutritional problems are associated with coronitis. You will find a list and descriptions at, Diseases of Horses » Skin Diseases, Wounds, and Swellings » Hair and Coat Problems / Itching / Irritated Skin » Coronary Band Disease: Coronitis. There are also several good discussions there.
