I have my three horses at home on 3.5 acres of pasture. All three have been on an eight week rotation. This past fall one of my horses went to work with a trainer for 6 months. I sent his dewormers to the trainer in which he was scheduled and I have no doubt that he recieved them. Although I'm not sure if all of the horses at this farm were treated as diligently as mine. If I had read your article before going I would have put him on daily dewormer for that 6 months. He came back to my farm in May (he got Equimax before he left) and I have just now given him a panacur power pack along with the other two horses. Did I do the right thing? Do you think that my farm is totally contaminated now? What should I do in eight weeks? Should I start a daily? FYI He lost a ton of weight at the trainer and I don't think it was just b/c of the work.

Welcom Angela,
I see no reason to be worried your pretreatment with Equimax should have prevented any remarkable egg shedding for the following month or two (see Overview article for more on this). Just deworm your horses regularly and check a fecal occasionally as directed in the articles.

Wow! This is great. I really appreciate your help. Intervet will do free fecals so I'm taking advantage of that.
