Anyone use the cattle insecticide ear tags? We are surrounded by cattle.
I keep my pasture clean, use fly spray and use fly masks but they are still tormented.
(Fans are not an option)
Do the flies get worse as the humidity goes up latter in summer?

Thanks, Leslie

I think the flies are at full bloom now until late sept. We have cattle surrounding us too and I am so glad my horses aren't tormented like them, they sure are covered with them. I guess the best thing to use would be a barrier....fly sheet and or boots.

My horses don't seem too bad, I use a spray called final flyt and it works well. I also use swat for noses, ears, under bellies, and tails...the nats are worse than the flies I think.

I have never used the insecticide tags, but people do around these parts and they seem to work as well as anything

Thanks Diane! guess I will get a sheet for the mare, she may be hypersensitive/ allergic to bites. shes covered in bumps with small scabs. While the pony, although severely annoyed, looks perfectly fine.

For the first time this year I bought my mare a fly sheet & fly boots, she is MUCH happier & the bonus is her coat doesn't bleach out. We also use fly predators but if your neighbors don't you still get the flies. KV Vet had a nice white fly sheet by Wrangler this year for about $55 but I think they're out of 'em now. The white is nice as it reflects the sun's heat rather than absorbing it.
