Hi Dr.O,

I have a horse boarded at a barn in Massachusetts. He is turned out daily with 2 other horses on roughly 1 1/2 acres. The paddock is not regularly picked up of manure etc. The other horses are on a similar deworming schedule as mine, which is...

Jan. Ivermectin Gold
March. Stongid
May. Anthlicide
July. Ivermectin Gold
Sept. Strongid
Nov. Anthlicide

I have reviewed this with my vet and she feels comfortable with the schedule...but after reviewing your schedule, I would like your comments.
Fecals were recently done and were negative. My horse is an easy keeper and is very healthy(1/2 qt of grain 2x per day and lots of hay...not much grass in pasture.)

Many Thanks,
IKE

IKE if fecals taken just prior to a deworming are negative your program is fine. The problem with such a program above is under heavy pressure or certain conditions the once every 6 months with an ivermectin will allow both small and large strongyles to prosper.
