I got a couple of breakaway grazing muzzles for my guys. One is horse size and one is pony size.
Does anyone know if the plastic breakaway clip in the muzzle will be able to be broken (by weight alone) by a small Shetland. (say if he were to get hung up on a tree branch and flip upside down). he weights around 358.
I have a feeling the plastic clip was designed with only full size horses in mind. I thought about using twine but Im not sure if the little twerp can break that either LOL
Thanks for any advice or opinions.
Les

I am unfamiliar with the plastic clips leslie, perhaps calling the company might give you more information. Let us know what they say. Natural material twine has been a traditional break away device that I believe a pony can break.

Hi DRO and HAs
I called the manufacturer and They didnt really know. They couldnt tell me at what amount of pressure/weight it would break. They did say that they havent had any complaints. And they thought a pony could break it, as they are strong enough to pull carts...which I already figured it would break from pulling back... But my specific concern was if he got caught and flipped/cast would his weight be able to break it and they couldnt tell me for sure. I think I will use some kind of string to attach it with.
Thanks for the info on the twine.
Leslie :-)
Ps The name is: Best friends grazing muzzle.
