Hi guys, sorry insecurity got to me once again. Since Margot and Unlimited arrived home[especially Margot was a bit thin] I fed very carefully so as not to let Unlimited grow to fast. So in three weeks they arrived at [together] 2 lbs mix alfalfapellets/flattened rye 1 lbs pellets for foal and nursing mare and 1/2 dose of special vitamin mineralpellet for foals and lactating mares. As I am unsure of the quality of the complete pellets I am slowly going to the point they receive only alfalfa/grainmix[due to weight 1/3grain 2/3alfalfa] and mineralvitamin mix full dose.
They have about 15 acres of good quality pasture new but mature quality hay as much as they want and a mineral salt lick. The pasture is about 1/4 clover.
The foal has in the past three weeks changed her coat completely and grows well like weed. I am watching her legs like a hawk and to me they seem clean. She is [and so is her mother] starting to play like an idiot and thus starting to muscle up nicely.
What do you think of the pics and the food? And if I have to slow her down how would you do that?
Thanks
Jos
PS She is now 3,5 months old and about 1.40m

Jos she is LOVELY! She looks to be in good weight. It's hard to tell with pics, but her legs look good in them. If something starts looking "big" be sure to check for heat, or maybe check for heat daily anyway...make you feel like you are being cautious

When I had the little ones all that got was a BIG pasture for lots of exercise, grass and MOM. I didn't even grain the mares, they were always in good weight. I never had a problem with that regimen.

How big is 1.40m????

Diane,
My chemical engineer found this site for me, so I would quit interrupting his TV time.
http://curezone.com/conversions.asp
Remember to remove the decimal point and divide the answer by 4 for hands.

Google will do conversions for you. Just type "1.40m in hands" into Google and it will tell you:
1.40 meters = 13.7795276 hands

If you want to get the fraction in inches, type: ".78hands in inches" and you get":
78 hands = 3.12 inches

So, 13 hands two inches (conventionally written 13.2hands).

Wiley THANK YOU! I really didn't feel like applying myself today, and math takes all the brain power I can muster.

Jos don't use metrics anymore PLEASE!

No This is the Holsteiner the half arab is about 1.30m at 2,5 months.Sooo [thanks Wiley !]13.7 hands. Diane how do you think I feel in between americans with hands and french with their Roman counting.
I feed them a bit because they came back a bit to thin and her 700kg Mum[ sorry 1350 lbs]is not an easy keeper. I also like to be sure they get everything they need because I am not totally familiar with the pasture.
This is the half arab Ann growing like weed too but he did that all the time, so I am already used to it[after some moaning to Sara\clipart

On height, one hand is four inches.
1.4 meters is 140 centimeters. There are about 2.54 cm per inch. So, a 1.4 meter tall pony is about 55 inches tall, four into 55 is 13 with three inches remaining The pony is 13-3 hands. If he were one inch taller he would be 14 hands. The nomenclature goes 13, 13-1, 13-2, 13-3, 14. as there are four fingers (inches) per hand.

I bet its a joy to sit out and watch your 2 baby's running around in the pasture.

I too, have to use google to do the conversions into hands. google makes math easy for us that are mathematically challenged
