I am considering getting some fly sheets with belly bands. Those little flies eat the heck out of my horses bellies (I call them cow flies, don't know what they are for sure...but not gnats) Literally hundreds of them on their underside....Swat works well...but this would be easier(I think)and probably less expensive in the long run

Anyway I found one that was within my budget, but as I was looking at the picture, I wondered about the geldings and peeing??? How does that work? anyone tried these on a gelding?

Hi Diane,

They thought of that, and it'll work fine, unless your horse's parts are significantly farther forward than the average boy equid.

Thanks, Diane, for my first good laugh of the day.

I will be interested in what you think of those if you get them.

I bought some heavier mesh fly sheets that also have neck covers but they trap too much heat and my boys were cooking in them.

I know what you mean about the cow flies, They are so bad here that I have been having to use some fly spray.

They like to get into the horse's eyes also.

Diane none of my horses are normal either! Both of my geldings have, on occasion, pee'd on the straps of their blankets. Its always nice to reach under and grab a sopping urine soaked strap in the morning. I think they are just too lazy to let that thing all the way out sometimes! Those look like nice fly sheets though! I supposed if you have the belly band far enough forward and snug enough to the belly, then there shouldn't be a problem. As we all know though, blankets of any sort stretch and shift around, so it's hard to say.

I hate those 'cow flies' too. We have a bigger problem with ticks and even spiders in our pasture though. Certain times of the year (usually summer) they are absolutely awful. I know the cattle farmers use that powder stuff on the cows, but not sure how well it would work or if it's safe for horses though.

Let us know if you get these blankets and how well they work.
