My horse, which I have posted other questions to you for his laminitis, now again has pinworms. He had pinworms in July and I did the five day powerpac. He was due to be dewormed when the laminitis started and the vet said to hold off while he was going through this. I don't know if I have resistant worms, I will deworm and try to sanitize, My question is; I read that some people have tried some kind of enema for pinworms. Is this something you have heard of?

Hello Kimberly, No I have not tried this and cannot find reports on efficacy. Note it might help with the adults but will not touch the larvae which are further up the bowel and buried in the mucosa. We had problems with resistant (to avermectins and oxibendazole) pinworms on a large farm of older Morgans. We found some effective treatments other than the Power Pac and I have uploaded a new section to the treatment part of the Pinworm article to include this information, for more see HorseAdvice.com » Diseases of Horses » Colic, Diarrhea, GI Tract » Parasites and Worms » Pinworms (Oxyuris).
