DrO: I'm sure I'm posting this in the wrong place, but can't think what the right place would be!

Just out of curiosity, how on earth do huge animals like horses come through major surgery without major joint problems? To see them slung upside down from a pulley system with all their considerable weight borne on their fetlocks is a horrifying sight!
