We have acquired a 12 year Warmblood gelding, who is about 100 lbs. overweight. We use him for eventing, so he definitely needs to have enough food for energy. He gets 4 lbs. of Triple Crown Lite per day, with 3-4 flakes of Timothy/Orchard Grass Hay (not great quality). With all that being said - has anyone every used a muscle building supplement to help build muscle mass? I am assuming that like in humans the more muscle mass you have the more calories you burn. If anyone has used a product like this - which one? Any other recommendations to get him in shape would be appreciated.
Thanks,
Nancy

Nancy,
We have an article on anabolic steroids, the steroid responsible for building muscle, see Equine Medications and Nutriceuticals » Miscellaneous Drugs » Anabolic Steroids: Equipoise, Winstrol, and others.

For information on training for fitness see Training Horses » Training Your Horse's Body » Exercise Physiology and Conditioning.
