We left two bags of grain outside by mistake, and they were rained on overnight. The bags are wet, but the grain inside is not - at least not obviously. Does grain get moldy if it gets damp? Our horses will go through two bags in two weeks. If we start feeding this grain to them today, are we risking colic or any other health problems? |

Don't chance it. its not worth 25 bucks of the cost of the bags vs. their health... it should start smelling immediately. You might be able to get a days worth out of it without a problem, enough time to get some more.... Here in Florida just if the bag gets damp the grain will mold. and that is pellets, sweet feed, and extruded feeds... dump them.... |

Welcome OM, Grain definitely gets moldy if not kept dry and some of the molds that can grow on it are very dangerous, particularly with corn. I would not recommend you use it as visually you cannot determine whether it is safe or not. DrO |

Thanks for the quick responses. I couldn't find any information on this anywhere else on line, and I live in a dry climate so it's not necessarily common knowledge here. Really glad you're here! |
