The Advisor is wonderful souce of information. Thanks for all the hard work that goes into it. I'm really excited about the new intranasal influenza vaccine. We bring in about 20 to 40 new horses every month and this sounds like I need to vaccinate them as soon as I get them with the influenza vaccine(inaddition to the routine yearly which we already do). The strangles intranasal vaccine may require more thought. Also I'm a little confused on antibiotic treatment of strangles. My have always been told that antibiotic treatment of strangles can result in a walling off of the infection/systemic reaction. The train of thought in my area has been to let it run its course except for treatment with bute and B12 or that treatment with antibiotics must continue for 4-5 weeks. Maybe I have a misunderstanding.Again, I'm thrilled to have located this treasure of knowledge in the horse area.

Check the article on Strangles (Equine Diseases: Respiratory System: Strangles & Streptococcus equi) it deals with this question in detail. Be sure to refresh that page in your browser as it has updates from as recently as this morning.
