Dr. O, Levi & Clyde, as far as I know just those two, got the gate open in the barn. When my girl came to work she said they were on the wrong side of the gate. They had bales of hay spread out everywhere, mostly grass hay, or grass alfalfa mix. the Grain supplement bucket was spilled, but mostly all over the ground. Clyde had his head in the oat can. We had just put a 50 lb bag of oats in last night. I fed probaly 6-7 lbs last night, and the same this am. Some was scattered on the ground, and it looked like 1/2 was still in the bucket, so I have no Idea how much they ate. After shoeing them out. They definately were "feeling their oats"
They took off zooming around the farm. My vet said to give them some banamine as a precaution. It was straight cleaned oats. Will they be OK?

So you think as much as 38 lbs of oats were ate by 2 horses? One problem we have is that we don't know how much was consumed by any one horse but at a minimum it was 19 lbs but could be a lot more if one pigged out more than the other.

That is a lot of grain for a single feeding, though it helps that is was oats. I have seen horses who have ate less have become sick Susan. If they seem a little sluggish today or if their bowel sounds are elevated I would feel better with a 3/4 gal of mineral oil in each of them. We have an article on this at Equine Diseases » Colic and GI Diseases » Colic in Horses » Grain Overload in Horses.

I am sorry, i meant that at least 1/2 of the 50 lb bag was still in the bucket, I had fed around 12 lbs in previous feedings, and there was spillage around the container. So that means at least 25 lbs were still in the container. So maybe 10 lbs or so between the 2 of them. pluss hay. Both boys have cool hooves and were pacing back and forth for breakfast this am. They both had poops in their stalls, and have gut sounds. I will keep an eye on them all day today. I gave them just a smidge of grain this am, to appease them. Hope that means they will be alright.

I see you were referring to the oats and not the supplement that was in a different bucket? The article I reference above can handle this question directly.
