how much alfalfa should a yearling get? one flake? two flakes? small, medium, large? i'm concerned about him too much protein.

Hello Lauren,
Your post indicates several problems with the way you look at this question: First is that too much protein is not really a bit problem, but too much energy is. Second in order to calculate the actual protein of your diet you need to know the weights and percentage protein of all your feedstuffs. A horse on an otherwise low protein diet needs more alfalfa than one on a high protein diet.
