Hi My mare is due to foal in the next two weeks, she has started to make her elder, Its still quite cold here in not so sunny Ireland.... I was wondering is there any tips for me to know when she is about to foal as she is out in the field at the moment & i want to ensure to keep an eye on her.

The term "elder" is new to me. I assume that's what we call "her bag?"

Good luck. If you can't get the above site, there's a lot of knowledge on this site and a lot of experienced people.

Hi Sean,

I guess you are the proud friend of a new foal by now!

But I just thought I made this comment, my mare foaled last June but she bagged (started producing milk) about a month before she dropped that foal, so I didn't have a clue when she would pop. So my vet told me that when you can fold the tail backwards completely they are ready to foal, and it is true just keep checking that tail.

All the best
Liliana
