DrO Last year with my yearlings I skipped (forgot) the 2nd booster (6 months after 1st booster)the shots for WN, EWT, and Flu/Rhino. I didn't start their vaccines until Dec of their weanling year, so this was their very first set of these vaccines. Their dams were vaccinated for these 4-6 weeks before delivering. This year I have given them EWT on 2/28/06, and flu/rhino on 3/06/06 and am giving WN- 3/13/06. I will be giving them rabies vaccine a week after this. Do I need to start all over on the EWT and Flu/Rhino vaccines? ie- boosting them twice this year? Thanks so much for this great site. Chris |

Thanks for the kudos Chris, I am uncertain that your yearlings have received the primary series. Back up one menu to the overview article and read about the primary series vs the booster series and I think it will answer your questions or at least give you the vocabulary so that you can repost your question including primary series information. Thank you DrO Okay now I know a little more terminology. Bear with me here. Will give dates hopefully to avoid more confusion. Fillies weaned on 9/29/04 11/07/04 - primary EWT -right neck 12/02/04 - booster EWT -left neck 12/15/04 - primary Flu/Rhino - right neck 1/14/05 - booster Flu/Rhino - left neck 3/07/05 - primary West Nile w/ EWT - right neck 4/03/05 - booster WN (EWT not included)-left neck 4/12/05 - primary Rabies- this was not boosted as vet said it didn't need to be, so am not worried about that one. When I gave the West Nile primary my vet only had WN/EWT on hand so had to give the combo, he ordered just WN for me for the 1st booster. I am assuming since the primary WN included EWT I am covered on that one, I had forgotten about the first ahemm excuse me the PRIMARY WN containing EWT when I wrote yesterday So having said all that, my question- the fillies only received 2 (total) shots of Flu/Rhino- a primary and 1 booster- I did not give a 2nd booster at the 6 months time frame from 1st booster. Is it ok to just give them an annual vaccine of Flu/Rhino or do I need to boost that one, one more time? In the article it was mentioned that the 1st booster could be called a primary so the confusion sets in-lol- I am calling the actual 2nd shot a booster and not a primary- hopefully that will help clarify. I did answer my own question regarding the EWT, as I mentioned above the primary WN included EWT. Whew- too much 'thinkin' for a Monday morning. You will notice I try to give each shot on the opposite side it was given the time before, read somewhere this helps w/ the response too- me thinks I read too much Thanks so much, this all seems trivial now after all of that, Chris |

Oh shoot, forgot to mention,I did not give the 2nd booster for WN either- that being the actual 3rd shot, the first being primary, the 2nd 4 weeks later- a booster in my definition. Are you totally confused now?- I am-lol Chris |

The flu/rhino should be ok as a annual and you do not need to repeat the primary series. DrO |
