I may be moving to a barn where I will have to do my horse's worming myself. I am not sure what products my current barn is using. My mare has been on daily pellets for over a year and my new gelding just started them about a month ago.
I am wondering, since I am moving to a new place, and my mare is going to be pregnant, what program would be best for me to follow? I would prefer to have both horses on the same plan, but that might not be possible.
I saw the three year plan, and that seems good, but where in the cycle (which year) should I start? Also, if the place I am at now is doing something totally different, does that effect which plan I follow?
Thanks!
Alicia

I would use the recommendations we have in Equine Reproduction » Pregnancy, Foaling, & Neonatal Care » Pregnant Mare Care and Nutrition and both can follow the same recommendation. The 100 dollar question is what is the parasite burden on the pasture (see the Management considerations in the Overview article) and besides those management considerations you need to get an idea of how well the other horses are dewormed.

Dr O,
No way to know that, as I don't even know where I am going yet. The one place is brand new, just been built, but horses are coming from all over to it. The other place is about three years old, and everyone is supposed to do their own program, so I would have to ask all the boarders there what they do, and the other two places I am looking at I haven't even seen yet.
So, I was thinking I would follow the three year plan, and it appears I can from your article, which just seems to say to use the ivermectin rotation during a pregnancy year. Not sure what to do about the tapes, but your worming article says studies show the tape medicines combined with ivermectin are fine.
My current barn is doing every 6 weeks ivermectin rotated with safeguard.
My mare has also been on daily for over two years.
So, I am going to start with the ivermectin year with both of them after I leave, and make sure I do the two week prior dose for the baby. Then switch to the moxidectin year the following year.
I noticed it said you should aggressively worm foals. Also, it says twice the dose. Is that twice the adult dose?
It says start with a double of strongid then a double of ivermectin. At what age? Also, how often and for how long? It doesn't give that.

Alicia, it specifically lays out our recommended program for foals giving starting dates, products, and amount of product. It specifically tells you not to use Strongid in them. Please read carefully and I don't think you will find any confusion.
