My three year old filly was sent out for training in December and shortly thereafter came down with strangles (discussed in earlier thread). I had to leaver her there until she was no longer contagious. I will be bringing her home in abut two weeks. Trainer's hygiene of paddocks, and revolving door of horses make me suspect that the worm situation isn't the best. He told me that my horse needed worming about a week ago, so I came with my Quest and gave it to her. He didn't get the message and then wormed her with Quest the following week. As per your articles, I don't think this is a problem. My question is, when I bring her home, do I worm her yet again? Or do I wait the normal interval until the next due worming. I don't want to introduce any new strains of worms to my pastures. I have a "closed herd" and have been following your guidelines for worming. Would three Quest wormings in one month be considered a 3x dose? Thanks |

If you think she is on heavily contaminated pastures I would worm again. Though the dewormer is quite persistent it should be at a low level after a few weeks. DrO |
