I have a mare that is de-wormed every 2 months, every other time with Ivermectin and in between rotating between Strongid and Anthelcide. I just tried to give her Anthelcide....I have to mix it in with her food (I am aware that this decreases effectiveness, but I have no alternative!) and she only picked at it. I'm not sure how much she got, but definitely not much! How soon can I de-worm her again since she didn't really get anything and what type of de-wormer should I use this time? Will any worms she has have built up a resistance to the Anthelcide since she didn't receive much? Is it safe to use it again at another time in her schedule? I would really like to de-worm her again ASAP if it is safe/possible as I am worried too because I fell a bit behind on the schedule. Thanks for your help!

First I would like to point out that we do not consider Anthelcide an effective deworming product and your current program may not be preventing significant parasite problems. For an explanation as to why see the overview article of deworming.

That said you can immediately deworm your horse without worry. There is not a significant increase of a chance of a toxic reaction even if the horse had got all the first dose. We recommend you start using our programs. For help with teaching your horse to behave for deworming see, Training Horses » Training Your Horse's Mind » Modifying a Horses Behavior: Conditioned Responses.
