Hi!
I am a new horse owner and have been doing my best to become a well-educated owner. I have read conflicting accounts about fly sprays. Do people routinely spray their horses for flies or only when you are working with the horse? I realize having some sort of system for keeping the fly population down is essential, but I wondered if the sprays were also appropriate. Any natural remedies that actually work?
Thanks for any advice!
Donna
I went to the local farm store and they wanted me to use a fly spray that seemed pretty toxic to me. They had numerous brands with varying amounts of pesticides in them. They recommended the most toxic. Thought I would get other opinions on this before I bought anything.

Hello Donna,
I personally think spraying horses to go out to 12 hours of pasture to be a waste of time and money since none last more than a few hours.

This is a timely post I am just about to post a new article on fly control and it should be up tomorrow or Tue at the latest. There should be links to it in the care section and the skin disease section and should cover most questions you will have. If not post them there.

Fame, see if this site has the information you want. You do remarkable good for someone whose primary language isn't English. Several of us have problems even with English being our language!
