To my preganunt mare.. it was her bi yearly due date for it.. she is due to foal mid May. I stated in another post my worry about BUGS this season and now my worry re the foal and her WNV vaccine.. Should i re due my mare with WNV this week, or is there any more current info on when we can vaccinate our foals with it.. ? On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with spots.. |

Ann we always try to keep the latest information in our articles so for the latest most detailed information on vaccinating foals see, Equine Diseases » Nervous System » Incoordination, Weakness, Spasticity, Tremors » West Nile Virus or more simple you could just follow our schedules in Care for Horses » Vaccines & Coggin's Test » Vaccine Schedules. But if this is a particular problem in your area I would study the article. For recommendations on doing the pregnant mare and even with the WNV as recent as Jan. I would follow our schedule for pregnant mares at Care for Horses » Vaccines & Coggin's Test » Vaccine Schedules. DrO |

Dr. O, I guess my question is here in CA we are recommended to vaccinate with WN every 6 months.. thus I did her in Jan. she will be due in June again.. but will that Jan. vaccine be enough for the foal she is caring, or should i over lap it and do her WN again this week.. ??? I am just worried of over vaccinating her .. On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with spots.. |

I don't see a reason for changing the recommendations so as to maximize the protection of the foal nor a significant increase in the chance of problems vs waiting the normal 2 more months. DrO |
