A neighbor told me that you can tell the age of the horse by how much the eyes droop. He said that unscrupulous horse traders sometimes inject lye into the upper lid of the eye or above the eye. He wasn't sure of the name of the exact location of the shot. This practice sounded terrible. Is this really true? Do some people actually do that? Is there a way to tell if a horse has been abused this way? What is the name of the part of the eye where they do this?

While it is true some horses get rhummy eyes as they age it is in no way an accurate gauge to age. I have never heard of injecting lye either and find it unlikely considering the reaction it would cause.
