Can someone please tell me the proper way to shampoo and rinse a horse's head without spraying them in the face with the hose?

Wendy,
Have you tried using a large sponge and squeezing it above the head to rinse? The only drawback is that some of it will definitely get on you.

Wendy,
The wet sponge trick that Kari mentioned works, you might also try a wet rag and just rub your horses head gently to remove the dirt. The running water from squeezing might spook your horse, so just rub the dirt out.

Good luck
