I am going to get a horse and it has never been vaccinated. I would like to vaccinate it myself. Can this be done? I need some advise fast since I am getting her this weekend.

In my area you can give everything but rabies- a vet has to do that.

I ask my vet what they're recommending, buy the shots from them and then give them myself. Saves quite a bit of money. You could probably save even more if you buy the shots at your local feed shop, but I figure if my vets are willing to give me the info, the least I can do is buy the shots from them.

Thanks Nancy, not many people show that much courtesy. Melanie: Vaccinations will depend on what area you are from. Click on General Care and then on vaccines and vaccinations. You can give the vaccines yourself. You usually give them in the neck muscles. Here in the Southeast, we give Eastern and Western Encephalitis, Tetanus Toxoid and Flu/Rhino every 6 mos. Rabies vaccine is once yearly. Check with your veterinarian to see her/his policy on dispensing these items. Potomac Horse Fever and Strangles vaccine will depend on your area and may be optional or unnecessary.
