Hi Dr. O correct me if I am wrong but don't some types of worms live in different parts of the horse at different stages of their developement so therefore you could still have worms present doing their damage even though none show in a fecal sample. For example don't some kinds of worms actually burrow into the lining of the horses gut making holes in it? Or am I all wrong?

You are correct Julie, the strengths and weaknesses of running fecals and how to interpret the results is gone over in the article » Care for Horses » Deworming and Parasite Control » Overview of Deworming. Also you will find the life cycles of all the horse parasites in, Equine Diseases » Colic and GI Diseases » Parasites and Worms. DrO
