When I pulled the syringe out of his neck, a drop of blood surfaced. Can Adequan being injected in a vein harm the horse? I'm very concerned!!!!!

Dede, You may have just nicked a vein on the way out, causing the drop of blood, rather than actually injecting it into the vein. Though I use Adequan, I don't know what would happen if it is accidentally put into the vein. Did you pull back on the plunger to see if there was blood in the syringe before you injected? If you did that and there was no blood you should be okay. Legend is MADE to be injected IV, so maybe Adequan will not do harm if put IV, though designed so it can go IM. Dr. O will have to let us know the answer to that.

Bleeding on the skin is not an indication of having injected in a vessel Dede. Did you pull back on the plunger when in the muscle? I am uncertain about the results if injected in the vein however, I have never seen a report of an adverse event with the use of this product.

I did not pull back on the plunger when I inserted the needle, but I will in the future. Thank you Dr. O for responding. I injected him on Thursday and he's seemed fine as of Sunday. I'm assuming that if he were going to have a bad reaction, it would have happened already. Is that a reasonable assumption? Thanks again.

Good news Dede! It would seem to me to be a reasonable assumption that if there was going to be a problem, you would have seen indications by now.
