Hi everyone,
I was going to continue this on the old post but it was sooo long. I hope you all remember me, it's been awhile.
I would just like to give everyone an update on Lady's progress. Simply put she is an incredible horse. Lady celebrated her 33rd birthday in April with style and grace as she gobbled down a slice of carrot cake.
The lavender scent is still working well. The other horses seem to appreciate it also. I haven't really had to use the tamping bar too much as she seems to know when it's time to come in.
What also amazes me is her pasture buddy Cee Cee (a mini paint)who is never more than 5' away from her. Lady puts her nose on Cee Cee's butt and they walk that way to the gate or water or just a new grazing spot. If Lady starts to wander out of Cee Cee's sight for more than a few minutes Cee Cee starts calling and running to find her. I don't think I could have found a better buddy for Lady.
Though I haven't posted for awhile I still enjoy reading and learning from your posts. I just hope this experience has made me a better horse woman. It has made me more patient. I believe I have a better understanding of how these beautiful creatures enhance our everyday lives.

Nonna, if I remember correctly, you were quite distressed at Lady's prospects due to her blindness, so I am thrilled (for your sake and for hers) that everything has worked out so well!

Nonna, you are bringing tears to my eyes! God bless the little paint and Lady. It is thrilling, as Fran says, to hear about how Lady is managing!

Nonna, your story is truly one for one of the major equine magazines. Please consider sending it in. It will help other horse owners with aged equines . . . and more importantly, it will help the horses.
Thank you for sharing. Any chance you can post a picture of Lady and CeeCee?

Wonderful news, Nonna!

I am always heartened by people who do what they can to keep an older horse comfy. So many people find them so disposable (hence the whole slaughter debate--sorry to inject politics!).

If all of us could commit to keeping our horses healthy as possible until God takes them home, it would certainly be a kinder world for our beloved animals.

I agree, please post pictures... a lovely story that needs to be shared thru a magazine etc..

On the first day God created horses, on the second day he painted them with spots..

I too, remember your original posts. I'm so happy to hear about your success. And, I, too would LOVE to see pictures of your treasures!
I don't know if you remember, but I was going to try the lavender with a "mental" horse I had just bought. I'm sorry to say that I just did not keep up with it so I have nothing to report on my "experiment". I think it would be worth a try, just did not get it done with him.
I hope that you can post pictures of your Lady and Cee Cee! What a wonderful thing you have done! God bless you for it.

Honestly Nonna, I couldn't agree more with Holly and Ann and others. You should write a story, complete with pictures and submit it to a horse magazine that invites editorials from the general public.

You have a winning story there.

What a beautiful story, that again has brought tears to my eyes.
I am so happy for you and your horses Nonna.

I also agree with the above posts on sharing your story with a horse magazine. It may help some others with similar experiences, as well as maybe shed a ray of hope for someone contemplating alternative measures with their ageing or blind horses.

You have done a wonderful thing, congrats on a job well done. I am sure Lady and Cee Cee are eternally grateful to you as well.

Do submit your story for publication...it is quite touching. Heartwarming.

I commend your efforts, and understand your love for your horses.

My 3 year old, male, Golden Retriever, guides my 21 year old, female, mixed terrier everywhere. He also protects her from my obnoxious, lovable 2 year old, Pug, when she wants to play too hard with the old gal.

I don't know about your being a better horse person. I do know you are a compassionate, loving human being, or you wouldn't be a horse person at all!

My hat is off to you, Nonna!

PS: I am going to try the lavender oil with my horse-he's a bit "rank" lately. Hard to deal with, and stubborn. As for the tamping bar-I've been resetting fences for the barn owner, using this equipment. I know I'd like to tell HIM what to do with the tamping bar-LOL! You're right, it's heavy! My arms are killing me!

Nonna,
A printed story about your success with Lady would be wonderful but you should also consider, (If they are not just making reruns and are still in production) submitting your story to Animal Miracles (my favorite show on Animal Plant about heart warming animal stories...like Chicken Soup for the Soul the animal version).
It seems that little Cee Cee has become quite the seeing eye horse and your Lady what a good old gal for not letting her blindness stand in her way.
Please please do post pics of Cee Cee doing her job and of course, of Lady. I can't remember from your original posts if Cee Cee was part of the family or if you just got her as a buddy for lady. If she was new to the family did she just take to the job instantly?
How heartwarming!

Take care,
Corinne

Hi Nonna,
I remember your post very well and I think about you and Lady every now and then. I'm the one who suggest the Peppermint or Lavender. I got a laugh about the peppermint and her trying to eat you! I'm so glad to hear she is still going strong and has adapted so well to the Lavender and her great buddy Cee Cee.
