Discussion on "aural plaques" in colts ears
Author Message

Posted on Thursday, Oct 25, 2001 - 9:32 pm:

Anyone heard of aural plaques (I think the spelling is correct)? My colt has nasty, painful white bumps in his ear, and the vet diagnosed it as aural plaques. She said that it may be chronic and if it is that I might consider selling him because he will become sensitive/head shy. Would like anyone's input since I can't find any other info about it.

When I got DJ in 1982, he had some aural plaques. I asked the vet doing the pre-purchase exam about them, and he said it was nothing to be concerned about. He was right. They have never changed at all or bothered him in any way. He is not head shy. In fact, he LOVES to have his ears stroked and fooled with. He IS rather sensitive to fly bites, but not excessively so. All in all, it has been a non-issue.
