The article on the Cunean tenectomy states that it has "fallen out of favor" but yet also says Cunean tenectomy appears to be a valid therapeutic option for treatment for Bone Spavin"

My specific case is the calcification that is in both hind legs and is irritating the cunean tendon. He also has bone spavin in both hocks. Are there other options other than this type of surgery? Would freezing the tendon or something similar help? our main goal is to relieve any pain. He is retired fom showing but still loves to work and is a great teacher for others. He has had hock problems in his left hind for several years (he is only 13)actually I noticed a slight difference in his way of going when he was 4 on the lunge line but has made it somewhat succesfully to 4th level in Dressage.

But the cunean tendon/cannon bone is new within the last year (since the last xrays)

What can I expect on aftercare from the surgery?

Thank you,

jenny

Hello Jenny,
Yes you correctly state the current state of affairs concerning cunean tenectomy. I have no information on freezing the tendon so I must say, "I do not know." However it is not a well recognized or studied procedure.

I have included the information on the surgical procedure and convalescense in the article.
