Dr O,
My vet has recommended panalog to treat the soars created by scratching. My poor old gelding has been plagued with soars on his mid-line and groin areas for several years. (It is worse in the summer.) We have gone the cortisone route and it works, however, my Vet does not like to keep him on it for a long period of time. Anyway he suggested I try Panalog on those areas and OH BOY IT WORKS! I have been using it for a month now and he is totally free of any soars. I apply just a little to the effected areas several times a week. I feel it is a vicious circle the bites create the soars the soars attract the bugs. So if I can keep the soars at bay maybe I'll win this battle this year.
Have you heard of this remedy?

Thanks for the information Regina. Yes we frequently recommend Panalog for sores that have an allergic component to them (Run a search on Panalog). It is important to realize that the triamcinolone in the Panalog is a type of cortisone and its widespread use on open sores of the body might have the same effects as oral use as the drug is absorbed through the skin. Personally I think the risks of either when used carefully is very small.
