(Sorry, I put this in the wrong place to start with) Is it possible that exercise induced bleeding could be an afteraffect of tie back surgery? My friends horse never bled before, then had the surgery. Her vet had her lay her off only two weeks after the surgery then start riding her again. THe horse is a very, very excitable hot tempered barrel horse. As soon as she went back to running barrels on her she started bleeding every time she runs her and sometimes just when she rides her. THis mare was on the track 3 years and never bled, plus was owned by another friend for the previous 8 months and never bled. Her vet also scoped her and said she was bleeding from the lungs, but they scoped her at rest, not after exercise.

Yes I can think of one mechanism that might account for this: what if the laryngeal paralysis prevented the horse from going fast enough to create the physical stress that causes exercise induced pulmonary hemmorage. Once the tie back occurs the horse speeds up and EIPH results. Of course this is conjecture and a thorough work up and evaluation needs to be done to rule out other possible causes.
