My mare developed a small bag at 250 days. I called my vet to have a look at her. He scanned her and found she had placental thickening at the cervical star to be 6.5 mm and he diagnosed my mare with possible placentitis. He started her on antibiotics called sulprim, the dose was decreased at 5 days.

At 260 days she still has a small bag but she also has some waxing on her teats. Her antibiotics have been increased and my vet will visit her on Monday.

I will send a photo.

Dr O Is there anything else we should be doing?

Thank you Dr O, I read the article and I will ask a reproduction specialist to visit my mare next week. He is 4 hours away from my place.

Is it possible to go to term since she is producing milky beads on the end of her teats?

Yes as long as the foal is alive there is a chance.
